The pastural approach to Ben Nevis.

Ben Nevis 1344m

If you are going hill walking in Scotland you have to do Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles, but don't expect to be alone!

We went up the week before the longest day and it was like Piccadilly Circus!

It starts like a walk in the park and you will find lots of people in T-Shirts and trainers, as you progress these people drop off, its an unremitting climb on stoney paths. There is nothing difficult, you just need the stamina to keep going.

We left in glorious sunshine, the last two hours where done in freezing mist, leading to walking through knee deep snow and horizontal sleet. It was so cold on the summit we could not get off quick enough!

So don't underestimate this mountain - this was high summer!

I would not recommend this walk for dogs, the stone path is not paw friendly!

Time taken about 7 hours.

The summit of Ben Nevis on the same day!
