Glas Mheall Mor from the ridge looking towards Glas Mheall Liath

Glas Mheall Mor 981m

This mountain is on the edge of An Teallach, I'm not sure if its considered to be part of the range, I guess not. However when I set out I intended to get to Sgurr Fiona, which is part of An Teallach - it was not to be!

Using the "easy" route to An Teallach from Dundonnell (the guide books say the route starts from the Dundonnell Hotel, it does not! Look for the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Headquarters, the path is to the right of the two wooden bungalows opposite it).

The path is quite easy going, however low cloud resulted in my views being somewhat limited! After a few hours walking through cloud it suddenly cleared to give wonderful views of Glas Mheall Liath. However I was now over 4 hours into the walk and still some distance from Sgurr Fiona, so I decided to just go up Glas Mheall Mor. Again very easy but now with wonderful views.

By the time I got off Glas Mheall Mor I had been out for 5 hours, so I decided to make my way back. As I had seen nothing on the way up I was a little unsure of the exact route back. However after a short while I found an area I was sure was the correct route, put my map away and walked on. After some time I looked up to see Little Loch Broom appearing on the horizon - not what I was expecting, moving to the edge I saw the Dundonnell Hotel way off down to the right, it should have been way off down to the left!

So! my lesson here, even if you are walking down clear open hillside keep looking at the map!

Nine hours walking - much more needed to reach Sgurr Fiona.
