From the summit of Spidean Coinich.

Quinag (Spidean Coinich) 764m

Quinag consists of three main summits, Spidean Coinich, to which this story relates, Sail Gharbh and Sail Gorm.

There is a large parking area on the A837 and the walk starts right opposite, cross the foot bridge and follow the path to the top of the first ridge, just a few hundred yards, turn left and go towards the ridge then follow the ridge through a gap in some large rocks then to the summit, as you get higher the ground gets very rocky but its not difficult, the ease of assent hides the very dramatic summit plateau. Indeed the only easy way to the summit is the way you have just come, once there three sides offer sheer drops. Its here that I had difficulty. The way to continue is straight across, there is a ridge going off to the left, just ignore that, it goes nowhere, your route drops right off the the opposite edge. If you don't like going near the edge, this is difficult enough, however once you have found the path, its not too bad at first, but soon I got to a bit which was very exposed and had quite long drops between ledges. Had I been by myself I would probably have continued, having got that far, but the narrow path with long drops made it impossible for me to get my dog down. There was no margin for error and it felt very exposed, I could not free up any arms to help my dog down! So I decided to give up and go back to the top!

If you make it over here, follow the path to the Bealach a' Chormaidh to ascend the other two summits.

I returned my the same route and decided to tackle the other summits another day.
